    Thank you, sir!

Still waiting for the batter heads (coated G2s) to arrive. Already have the snare re-headed (coated Ambassador over Diplomat, naturally), as well as the bass drum (Powerstroke batter, coated and vented Emperor reso).

Can't wait to pick up the extra floor tom this week! That makes the kit.

Switched up the 3 up 2 down set up. Been putting in many hours of session work at a friend's home studio. Found the ride too far away causing pain in my rota-tor cuff.

    Before:

    Now:

Broke the kit down to a 4 piece with just the kick, snare, hihats, ride and sat down and played without any pain.

Moved the 8, 10, 12 over the hats:

    16, 18, 14 K Custom Dark over a 22 K ride. 14 HHX extreme over the 16 floor tom:

Yep, it took some getting used to. I looked at a few birdeyes shots from previous set ups including the double bass rig and found the ride was always too far way.

Learned how to play drums on a 2 up 1 down set up over 35 years ago and it still remains to be my favorite layout:

But I'm really liking this more as I grow older. I turn 59 in a few weeks and the less I get to haul around, the better.

Used the "D, E, F, G", rack tom placement similar to Pearts set up. #7 is the ride:

A-ha I had a feeling you were going for the peart setup. For the before pic of your DW kit (1st pic before your second post), have you tried putting the ride above the 3rd Tom sort of where the crash is? When I played 3 up that was the only spot I could have it. Great to see you posting again btw! Happy new year!

What I'm trying out on my Crush kit is putting the Hi-Hat more in front of me to avoid arm/ hand crossover. My hands are a lot more comfortable out in front of me! lol.DSC01830.jpg Wellcome back, stranger!

I’ve wanted to do this for so long. Do you feel a difference in the remote hats vs the regular stand in the pedal?

Because the remote HH has a cable naturally it's going to be a little stiffer resistance in feel but not enough to worry about. I like the HH more out front.

HI Mike! Thanks for the welcome back and Happy New Year to you too! Yes, I've tried placing the ride right above the 3rd rack tom but reaching slightly above level causes a dull ache in the right arm. Having the ride right in front of me at thigh level is so comfy and my ghost notes are much subtle according to the tracks I've been laying down.

Here's a pic with the ride above the 3rd rack tom:

Little more stiffness than lag. The action on it is right on.

Interesting that you have a Paiste ride, Sabian Hi-Hats and Ozone Crash, Sabian Chopper, and Zildjian Crash....a little bit of everything. That either means you have a ton of cymbals or are very picky and pieced your cymbal setup together based off of the sounds you liked for everything. Usually cymbals of a particular line are matched to all work together. Seems like you did your own matching.

Correct, I did! I've always bought cymbals how they sound to my ear. The 16&18in. crashes are Steve Weiss cymbals believe it or not! The sound to me is just as good as a lot of Sabian and other high-end cymbals out there and a lot cheaper. I was blown away by their sound! The cymbals have no stamps or logos of any kind on them! lol. And yes, I have more cymbals.

Beautiful setup btw. I’m not really a zildjian guy but the look of hammered K’s is just incredible.
