Very cool drum head configuration. It looks like there's not lugs or rims. Anyone know what these are?

Don't know for certain but I've seen pictures of him playing Davoli drums. They were kind of weird too.

I see lugs and rims but bottom heads and rims were taken off to be like concert toms.

I've noticed that too. I can’t explain it. No protection from the rim on those bearing edges. hmm
Maybe he has say a 13” head on the 12” drum with spacers under the lugs to compensate. Using like the old non stick- saver rims. I have no idea but guessing. Even so, the bearing edges are exposed to possibly getting dented up.
