    Default Pearl Export EX Snare

I have a chance to get a Pearl Export EX snare drum in an all black finish for a very good deal and was wondering what these drums are like in as far a sound and shell construction.I already have a Pearl Firecracker snare and dig it's sound but really not sure what to expect from this EX model.....Any ideas.experiences or suggestions??
    Cheers! Bifster

Well, Pearl is known for their excellent shell construction, even on the low end drums like Forum and Export. If the EX snare is the kind of snare drum you're looking for, then go for it. But keep in mind that it's not a "high-end" snare and you might be better off spending a little more money and looking for higher quality stuff on the used market.

Thanks for the reply!... I'm not overly concerned about "super extra heavy duty quadruple flange hoops with diamond encrusted finish".
I had owned an Export kit in the early 80's and was quite pleased with it back then although I'm assuming that the quality has gone up by the looks of them now.
Again what is the shell material on the Export EX snares?
I'm assuming that it is a conglomerate of woods or am I wrong?

    Welcome to Drum Chat Bif!

The Pearl Export kits have poplar shells.

I believe your Firecracker has a poplar shell as well as the export series snare drum. If you like the sound of your Firecracker and liked your exports back in the 80s then I suspect you will like this snare. In my opinion, they are a decent snare drum, nothing to write home about, but a solid snare.

    Your choice in the end.

$400?? Really? I don't even think I would pay $200 for one. I bet you could find them pretty cheap.

EDIT - Unless you mean the MPB snares then yes, I have also seen them for that price.

As RHD eluded to..the poplar shell EX snare drum is a very solid performer!
    Excellent shell construction and quality..
With the right heads and tuning, you can get a very admirable sound from these drums.

400 US = roughly 600 bucks Canadian.Speaking from the heart of the Continent of course.I've never seen them for 150 bucks anywhere but maybe "I'm looking for snares in all the wrong places".
Thanks everyone for all of your help and opinions.I did end up passing on the Export EX snare only due to it's condition..but who knows what might come along!
    Thank you all again!!

the export snare is ok, but if ur getting a new snare, u might as well get a high quaility one, id reccomned the pearl free floater, its like 3 drums in one, i bought the Maple one, but if i wanted to i cood easily make it a Brass or a Copper snare, and its just as easy as chaning the heads, its a very expsenive snare (around $400) but its defintly worth it, i especially love the rim shots, they sound like a gun
