I just got a Zoom H2 today! Wow that sounds great, I can't wait to try mine out!
just wanted to share this. I just bought a Samson Zoom H2 digital recorder
and decided to try it out. I recorded this with the recorded placed about 4ft directly in front of my drums. the H2 has 4 built in condenser mic and you can select the front mics which cover a 90 degree field in front of the recorder or the rear mic which cover 120 field behind the recorder. or you can choose to use all 4 mics.
I chose to use just the front 2 mics and record directly to mp3 format at 192 kbs, you can select up to 320 kbs (cd quality)
I played a drumless track through the pa system, using the floor monitors for sound output. I'm using an old low end kit with cheap cymbals and no other mics. recorded in a 12' x 24' garage with hardwood floors.

I am going to take the plunge and get the H2.
Can I ask which mic settings do you each record using?
Front 90°
or
Rear 120°
or
Full 360°
Also, which format do you use?
24bit/96kHz linear PCM WAV files or do you just use 128kbps for MP3s or even perhaps something in-between?
Can anyone also tell me the recording times in these formats on a 1GB SD memory card?
Finally, is the advertised 4 hours of battery life accurate?
Thanks in advance.

so far I have only used the front mic pairing for recording drums and the rear mics for a full band.
generally I set it for 192kbs MP3 or 256kbs MP3
mine said it came with a 512mb Sd card but when it arrived it actually had a 1 gb card. It will record 694 mins at 192kbps of MP3 with a 1 GB card
4 track mode will greatly reduce recording time, about 45 mins on a 1gb card
so when I thought I was only getting a 512mb card with the unit I went ahead and bought a 4gb SDHC card and reader, I can record 2777 mins of 192Kbps Mp3 on a 4 gb card.....thats more than enough for band rehearsals

I'm not sure on battery life, It came with an AC adapter and I usually use that, however I did record about an hour of my drum teachers jazz jam the other night and the battery still showed a full charge.
I'm going to start recording my drum lesson with this thing, again the H2 is the best $150 I ever spent
I just picked up one of these this week. I'll second the "Best $150 I ever spent".
