That's not true for everybody. Many people think maple is a "better" or "higher quality" wood, just because they personally think it sounds better, and its more expensive. I was just thinking that they're pretty similar kits in many areas and wouldn't seem to justify an upgrade. The PDP is even better than the VX in some cases, like the tom mounts (if the CX has STM's) and the PDP I think has lacquer finishes. If we were talking about the "better" Visions (VMX and VBX) I might say differently, but he said VX.
If you'll remember, Russ, I'm about to invest hundreds of dollars into a birch/basswood kit, when I had the chance to get Gretsch Renowns at the same price.
Also I think the Pearl has more basswood than birch in it, but it doesn't say specifically on their website.
But in the end it comes down to sound. Sean, if you like the sound of the VX's more, then you should get them, because that alone makes it worth the upgrade.
Matt
i say get the vbx because they are higher quality and more birch because the vx is mixed

You are really not making a step up in kits for sure. The visions are Pearls entry to mid kits as are you PDP CX. The differecne is you can get a laquer finish on the pearls as opposed to the wrap of the CX. I play a PDP LX kit that I have had for seven years now. I have always loved the tunning range of the PDP (maple CX,LX etc.) kits. I can't imagine with a little tunning and the right heads that you couldn't make your current kit sound every bit as good it not substantially better than a Pearl Vision, I know mine do! To answer your question, If you are dead set on selling them as a shell pack used but in good shape. I would say somewhere in the $300 to $400 range.
if your after birch go for a full birch vbx's. basswood wont get you the total birch sound

I would say something in the 400-500 dollar price range. go with 50-70% of what you paid new based on condition.

If you're going to trade a mid-level kit make sure you get a high end kit rather than another mid-level.

Playing a kit in a store can be deceptive. Tuning, heads, acoustics of the store...
In the end, you'll be the one to decide on what you want, but the PDP's IMO sound much better the Visions.
