I about to purchase my first drum set and the one thing I am still not sure about is whether to get a standard or fusion kit.
Musicaly my taste are varried. I am into rock, jazz and R&B. I am not into heavy metal and wont be playing that kind of music.
Is my decission as to standard or fusion just going to be personal taste or are there things that I should consider musicaly or sound wise when making this decission.
Either way I would appriciate any thoughts on this subject.

The only real difference is the size of the rack toms. The smaller sizes make higher pitched notes, so for your jazz and R&B, it could be a nice way to accent your beats.
I've played rock/metal on a fusion kit, and it still sounds great to me.
I'd suggest playing both, and then picking the one you like the sound of better.
