just pratice, ur gonna be very nervous and scared ur first time, and proaably go to the bathroom like 100 times within an hour, but after u play a few gigs u dont get nervous at all, it becomes no different than praticin with the band becuase u get used to it, and realize theres nothing to be nervous of, the worst thing that can possibly happen is ul mess up, but wev all messsed up its nothing to be ashamed of, the auidence wont even notice if its an original

I just played my first show about a month ago and was nervous as heck, but I was still confident in my ability and it went great. Just try to think positively and be confident in yourself! Once you start playing the nerves go away anyways

Remember your dynamics...even the hardcore stuff has dynamic range and your bandmates will feel your groove once you've established your place as the backbone of the band. Good luck!
Lots of good advice here. Im going to add my own two cents.
Dont stand there staring at your shoes, people are there to be entertained, so entertain them! 5 mins after your done people will forget the music you just played but if you put on a good show they will be talking about it for weeks.
Dont goof around and make silly noises into the mics or with your intsturments between songs. It sounds completely unprofessional. Same as tuning, tune your guitars before you go on stage.
Dont be to loud. There is rocking and then there is annoying, its a fine line.
Be as prepared as possible going in, know the music, and have fun with it. Stay as calm as you can, and realize no ones going to notice the little mistakes, even your bandmates, who will be busy playing their parts. So go in there and have a good time!!
Gretsch Catalina Birch 6 piece fusion set (10,12,14,16in. Toms, 22 Bass). Sabian 20" HH Classic Ride, 16" Istanbul Agop Dark Crash, & Zildian K 13" Hi-hats.
KISS...keep it simple and steady!
Be Prepared!
Being prepared will help reduce stress and anxiety so you can focus on playing.
It may seem obvious, but you'd be surprised how many drummers don't bring this stuff to gigs and regret it later.
Be sure to bring the following to your gig:
- Extra Sticks
- Extra Snare Head
- Spare Drum Key
- Set List
- Spare Cymbal Felts
- Towel
- Bass Drum beater patch (You never know when you might "break on through to the other side"!)
- Spare hi-hat clutch
My tips for a good show:
- Arrive early for load in / sound check if possible
- Bring a practice pad for offstage warmup if possible
- eat a good meal an hour or so before playing
- Bring WATER on stage not beer
- Stretch your arms and legs before going on stage to play
- Communicate with your bandmates and the soundman
- Have fun / relax
- play through mistakes and don't let on that you made any
- Get you AND your stuff off stage quick when your set is over
Above all... Have a good time - that's what it's really about after all. But a little preparedness and fore thought goes a long way
