How is this floor tom tuned? an rack tom for that matter??
How does this guy have his toms tuned.. Especially the floor tom. Is the top head tight? fast forward this video til he starts playing and listen for the floor tom. I curious about the floor tom tuning in the second vid as well. I just got some Evans EC2 clears and the first vid he is using them..Thanks!

The first video he only hit his floor tom like twice lol but from what I gathered from both videos they have the toms tuned low to a rock type tuning, not much resonance out of any of the toms so I would keep the bottoms tighter than the batters.

Yeah, I'm not loving that FT sound in the 2nd one. Almost no note or tone to it, just plasticky attack.

I think the kid in the second video had a good sound, considering the fact I didn't see any close mics on his kit, which leads me to believe this was recorded from a distance with one, possibly two mics. With that kind of setup it's very hard to get a good low end sound from your kit.
On floor tom tuning - both of them seemed to have more of a rock tuning... tuned low, just above the point where the head is fully tensioned without rippling. It's how I have mine tuned and they sound like thunder.Also no dampening or muting either.
My Kit: Gretsch Catalina Maple 6 piece (1 up, two down, 1 not used); Pearl 12" Porkpie Snare; Sabian cymbals (except the Zildjian 20" med. ride); Evans EC-2 heads all around with G1 resos; DW-8002b double pedals.

By the way, in the first video, he is using Remo Pinstripes if I'm not mistaken. And he does have moongel it appears. But, it is very close to the rim so it barely dampens the drum.

I agree, that first vid looks like Pinstripes on the toms.
It's difficult to tell exactly how they have them tuned but the best way I've found to do it, as Halon mentioned, is to tune it just above where it starts to produce a solid tone, usually 1/2-1 turn after finger tight. Thicker heads help to get that lower sound to. That EC2 should do just fine.
