I haven't tried it jdl, but it sounds like a real creative solution.
Well, I 'm still trying different things out on Wednesday nights when I play at church. Very mellow music and the guitar player really likes the bass beat and back beat.. so Congas aren't always the best and the Cajon sometimes doesn't cut it.(plus it hurts my back)
So, I tried playing my wood djembe with a piccalo snare. I played the snare with my left hand mostly and sometimes used a stick for cross-stick effects.
The bass on the djembe along with the snare sounds pretty tight and I can also play just the djembe for other songs. Seems to be a nice combination.
Anyone else ever tried this?

It would be interesting to hear a video of that combination if you get a chance.

Ok.. I'll work on somehting .. it would be good for me to hear back on a recording as well.
jdl, that sounds like a winner! May have to try that myself, even though I don't have a piccolo snare!
keep the beat goin' ... Don't keep it to yourself!
