One of the bands I play in is strictly a cover band. Anyone know the guidelines about promoting a cover band as far as posting snippits of music on MySpace or YouTube or...? I want to play by the rules.

Technically, ASCAP and BMI want their cut and and the websites could potentially pull your covers if they want to but usually they wont bother. They have bigger fish to fry

I believe there is a loophole where if you do not use the complte song they don't bother you. Use short 20-30 second snippets of a few sample tunes. I have never had an issue with this

As far as I know it,s illegal , but if you go ahead , make sure you mention the original artist, so it may be" Black Dog written and performed by Led Zeppelin" . I have never had any problems with our songs on jamwave, but we make sure it,s advertised as a cover by whoever it is.

Although I cant give you a link of the exact ruling on this, but I believe this is correct. This is how Amazon, iTunes, etc...can allow you to listen to the song you are looking to download.
