If you could post some pictures it might give us a better idea of what is wrong. Thanks!
I have started removing the original wrap from my 1960's Ludwig three piece kit. This is my first attempt to recover a set of drums, and this set had the original wrap sanded and painted many years ago, long before I bought it. I have gotten most of the wrap off, but the last portion of the wrap is under a layer of thin darker wood. Maybe an inch or so. I was thinking that the wrap would not be under any of the wood? Help!

Here's a couple of pics. The original wrap extends approx. one inch under the outer layer of wood. What do you do with that? I have cut the wrap at the end of the outer wood layer, but should I cut off the remainder of the wrap (approx. 1 inch wide) with the wood and start from there or leave it? Anyone attempted to recover a 1960's Ludwig 3 ply with re-rings? If so what did you do?

Here's another picture, and I hope it's better. Sorry.

I guess I can't be of much help but here's a thread that might interest you. You might get hold of Kevin and see what his opinion is.

I wouldn't cut any wood if I didn't have to.
Just cut it off where the wood starts. Everything will be covered up when you re-wrap anyways. Do not remove any wood from the shell.
