I see your point. I was stationed at Ft. Lewis for a couple of years (Tacoma area, for those that don't know) and it was pretty sweet. Mild winters, best summers you could ask for. And I'll never forget the view during sunset jumps coming over the Puget Sound! Doesn't get a whole lot better.

Here's a view of a jump on Rogers Drop Zone.

I live in Seattle...and it often seems we are treated like a county in Alaska ! Only since the economic rise in tech industry ( which is now wanning ) did Seattle get much recognition for be a rich culture. But....the State of Washington is otherwise very conservative ~ not very worldly except for the Universities that have vibrant students from all over...these days & have been well traveled. I think the best thing about the region & the state is that we have so many climate zones & ecologies, varied terrain, close to the Pacific ( Pan Asian ~ Pan American trade ), close to Canada & Alaska. We have moderate climates...BUT are in denial that we live...on the ring of fire !

I've lived here in WA for majority of my life (22 years). I'm in North Tacoma now, and it's really nice. Lots of Victorian style houses. Olympia is probably where I'll end up resting my bones. I lived there for about three years up until about a year ago and loved it!

Its a rather laid back town...the pace of life here is slow and peaceful. Very little crime...and we just got a Dollar General store in town. That was Big News~!
