Look at you now - Look at you....
I mentioned in a different thread (about cymbals) that high-end cymbals usually don't come in packs.....much to my chagrin, I was thumbing through the new Guitar Center catalog this morning, and lo and behold, a Zildjian A Custom Prepack....20" ride, 16" crash, 14" hi-hats, and a free 14" fast crash and cymbal bag......$649.

Actually, there are A LOT of cymbal packs for higher end cymbals
AA, AAX, Paragon performance, AA metal-X, a bunch of those
Theres A custom, A zildjian too, i think theres more high end zildjian packs but i dunno
Jelousy flows my mind.
Just a little question about cymbals, do you guys know the cheapest ,but with a nice jazzy sound, cymbals ?
There are no good low-end jazzy sounding cymbals.
Sabian B8 Pro's can be a bit jazzy, but the jazz cymbals are really expensive.
ie. HHX, Hand Hammered etc.

Check out the Paiste Alpha series. They are the least expensive cast, hand hammered, hand lathed cymbals on the market. The revamped line is pretty extensive, so you should be able to come up with some good jazz cymbals without totally breaking your wallet.Originally Posted by Momo

Actually, I think I know where all the Zildjian bonus packs ended up...my favorite drum shop had ZBT, ZHT and A Zildjian packs all over the place the other day...

Im not personally a big fan of cymbal packs, because usually music stores have high quality used rides and hats coming out of thier ears, and i prefer bigger crashes (17, 19 inch) So when i upgraded my cymbals i found a good used pair of Zildjian A Custom mastersounds and a used Sabian AAX stage ride. Then i bought a few Sabian AAX crashes new. I also found that the Wuhan S series crashes (very cheap in price) blend amazingly well with my sabian AAXs. Used is the way to go on everything but crashes in my opinion, i stay away from used crashes to avoid cymbals with hidden cracks

Really I hear those are very low quality, but maybe they could blend very well if you have the right sound.Wuhan S series crashes
But your right, I would never buy in packs. Takes away from finding that specific sound that is right for you, if you buy a pack you don't know what your getting. Like technically you do, but the cymbals may not work as well as you think they will together, often I find that if you buy separate cymbals that you test to work together, they often sound better than a pack, you buy all at the same time.

....especially Zildjian cymbals. Zildjian cymbals are made to a tonal range, and not a specific tone....for example, a 16" Zildjian A Custom will be within a certain tonal range specified for that cymbal by the manufacturer.....you could play 2 different 16" A Customs, and get 2 different sounds, but both will be within that range specified by Zildjian.
