Its a beauty! I would love to get anothe snare, but I don't always have the free will (or cash) to buy another =/
Well I thought I had kicked my habit and was on the road to recovery, however I slipped last evening. I was at my local GC and there it was a pork pie curly maple 6x14 snare. I looked away, I went to the pro audio section to order a headphone amp, I went to the guitar section with my bro and checked out a Randall Lynch Box, heck even went the key board section, but it drew me back like a moth to a flame. It's not my fault ya see. I took it off of the shelf... just to look at it (there is now harm in looking right?). Then the guy behind the counter gave me a pair of sticks. What could I do? I was just going to listen to it. NOTHING ELSE. It sang deep warm tones with a sensual attack. I pulled down a Pork pie Brass snare which I record with and played it just to prove to myself that I don't need another snare because I had a great one at my recording studio and multiple other snares I enjoy and usually just stare at ( 5x17 Pork pie maple, 1970's 6x14 Brass Slingerland, 6x14 Tama Birch superstar) . Wait.. It sounded better (that's ok I AM IN CONTROL) then I pulled down a dw 5.5 x14 VLT maple just to prove that it is not what I need because the dw would demolish it... Wait, the PP curly maple had more bottom end and warmth. That's ok because it is gonna be too expensive and I know how GC can jack prices up. Wait.... 50% off. Well, I do NEED another snare and this will be last time. I promise, just a going away gift that has been my snare addiction that I have kicked for good once i take this bad boy home...I think.

Very nice choice. I love the look of that wood.
I, too, own a PorkPie snare and know how the price combined with the quality of build and sound will ensnare you (all puns intended) like a steel trap.
Smack it with pride, brother. She's a beauty.
Proudly playing:

I think I love to play the drums simply because you get to hit 'em!!!
Beautiful snare! I wish I had the money to start collecting snares...but I'm afraid of what might happen if I did....lol.
Did you say you had a 17x5 snare???? That must be beastly!

nucjd, that is one beautiful snare! I saw that one online recently, and I am very glad that I wasn't able to put my hands on it. From your description, I'm not sure I could have resisted either!

as an occasional snare collector(id say one or two every couple years) i can feel your pain. but if it's a voice you don't have that can really come in handy for certain songs. very nice choice there! how much did it run you?

Thanks for the comments guys. Russ, It was 200.00. The fundamental tone is deep and it has a beautiful warmth. I am a pork pie fan and LOVE their bearing edges. This one does not disappoint. While the snare is very full bodied there is a very aggressive attack that is helped by Evans G2 center dot I put on it when I walked into the door last night.

"I PROMISE THIS IS THE LASTTTT ONE...for NOW" ahaha..then after few days, you saw some beatiful snare even with great price tags u cant resist..the Virus drives u mad and in all of a sudden voila...you just expanded your arsenal!
I can feel you, brother! we are on the same boat..dont worry..its "healthy" haha
I'm with you. I too am addicted to the snare drum. I want an arsenal of various metals, woods and sizes. I'm up to a sweet sixteen now.
I keep my ebay eyes open for a sweet deal or a unique item weekly, and I'm afraid that I have expensive tastes. Enjoy your new toy.

Snare addict, what ever could you be talking about?
I too am a snare addict, however, I do not plan on quitting at anytime, ever...........unless my wife says otherwise.
A good drummer will sound good on anything(even stock drum heads). A bad drummer will sound bad on anything.
I may have just found another of my lost children on ebay. I'll know in a few days if it's coming home with me.
