    Default PDP Restoration

My other thread was lost in transition.
Found some of the less expensive PDP's for really cheap and Refinishing them.
Maybe about about 5 years old?.
The shells are really nice and perfectly round. Edges are fine too.
I believe they are Mahogany. I think we have a little grain going.
Leaving them natural. Bass pic is after the wrap removal.
Shell's pic is after 3 coats of natural danish oil. I am thinking with decent heads these will rock.
Going to give them 3 coats of Spar Polyurethane. This is a updated Shells pic.

yeah it looks like they need another coat of oil for sure the first layer you put on has soaked into the wood and you need the second layer to protect it followed by the clear coat poly, like you said.

they look good, i have seen others do this before with great results. post pics for sure when its done.

Yes DamageDrummer, definately some more oil. Going to give them 3 coats and let them dry for about 4 days then 3 coats of poly with a light sanding in between coats. Should even them out pretty well.

I used 4 coats of Watco Natural Danish Oil. It soaks in the wood and hardens and darkens the wood a little and brings out the grain. Makes the wood water resistent too. Takes about 3 days to soak in and dry completely.
Then will use natural clear polyurethane glossy coating.
Have been cleaning up the lugs today and some of the hardware.
There coming out really nice. Have a little chrome loss on the tom holders but can fix them up I think.

Finished. Sort of. The kick and floor tom sound great. I need different heads for the mounted toms. Snare is fine. I put the badges on but didn't really like them so removed them. Not sure what I am going to do on that. I think I may get some gold and white ones.

I play a old pacific set. Yes I said pacific you know like actually spelling it out instead of PDP. So yeah I have an old pacific set. racks are 10,12, and 14, floor is 18. but the my floor tom is PDP platinum series would of like the same as my set but o well my set is like not made anymore. Kick is an 20 inch and got stock 13 inch snare drum with mighty putty, and I still need good cymbals

I believe they are Oak. I think we have a little grain going.
The Pacific Ez were absolutely not Oak, oak is deserve for high end kit, think Yamaha oak custom or Gretsch Renown Purewood Oak. The Ez were basswood and I recognise the wood grain immediately.

Nice restoring job BTW but I would recommend replacing the bass drum metal hoops with Maple ones that you can get both for 100$ and it will look even better like an intermediate to high level kit.

You did a fantastic job with that, man! And yes, it's definitely basswood, it looks like the wood grain on my Superstars which have an outer basswood ply.
