Drum Bum isn't the maker but they were one of the first to carry it.
Anyone familiar with this new devise called the KICK PORT, made by drumbum. I have been hearing is was the most impressive thing at NAMM last year. This was coming from one of the techs at Pearl Corp.

i have heard good reviews on it, havent used it yet myself. im thinking of doubling it up and going with 2 ports in the reso head both with the kickport in them. im curious to see how i can get it sounding. if i do it soon, ill be sure to let you know. i am also curious to see what others have to say about this product.
It is on my short lost of "must buys" from seeing/hearing it at NAMM this year. I am not sure doubling up on it would do anything but defeat the purpose though. It is well designed in its elegant simplicity. They do suggest using it on an unmuffled reso head for maximum effect.
Animal, here's a video that gives a before and after sound comparison:

Our own Drum Bum has the KickPort available.

now i am not sure because i havent tried, but i dont think doubling up will defeat the purpose of the kick port. its a very simple concept, the more air you push, the bigger sound you get. im wondering if the kickport will even make a difference when pushing that much air. i guess this is still very much a new experiment that i am curious to see what people will come up with, so im not really jumping to any conclusions yet. i heard the same thing about the un-muffled reso head. and i guess the kick port eliminates the purpose for any kind of pillow which is cool.
Pastor Bob, Thanks for that. Wow! what a huge differance that makes. may be investing in a kickport here in the near future.
I have one in my Yamaha birch kick drum and it is AMAZING!! It does exactly what it claims! Get it!!
drumhedd, that kit looks so nice, I almost can't see the KickPort!

I liked the drum better without it.
I was at sam ashe last week and they did'nt have them. Anyone know who is stocking them and how much are they going for?
im still trying to find my sound, experimenting. I have realized i LOVE the feel of a very loose batter side head. anyone else?
I would suggest buying them from Drum Bum. They own this forum and this way you could support them.

Actually I'm gonna have to agree with this. Before they put it in, I was thinking "hey, that bass drum sounds pretty good already", and then when they put it in it sort of deadened the sound.
I'm sure it's different in person, but that's just what I got out of the video.

I thought in the video it sounded better before the kickport was in.
You cannot judge the sound by a YouTube video. Even the interviewer states that to be the case.

Just ordered one also. Even understanding that you can't trust the sounds on You-Tube, there was definitely a pretty big difference in sound. Plus I like the idea that you supposedly can pretty much empty your bass drum and allows for more of the natural wood sounds coming out, rather than a combination of wood, reso, and pillows. We'll see.
