    Default Speed Drum Tuning

I'm not sure if you've already covered this subject in a previous thread since I'm new to the site but I would like to learn 'Speed Tuning'. I know it isn't likely but during gigs a skin could split during a song and I'd need to re-skin asap and quickly since the audience hate long pauses.

I was wondering if you guys could give me tips on speed tuning accurately? Much obliged.

um see one of the tensions rods that weren't split and try to get around there with the that split or what ever just try to ear it.
I play a old pacific set. Yes I said pacific you know like actually spelling it out instead of PDP. So yeah I have an old pacific set. racks are 10,12, and 14, floor is 18. but the my floor tom is PDP platinum series would of like the same as my set but o well my set is like not made anymore. Kick is an 20 inch and got stock 13 inch snare drum with mighty putty, and I still need good cymbals

Thanks Direblood, much obliged The only thing I don't really get (since my kit's been tuned by other people everytime) is what point do I stop and so on... How many rotations and what have you? I'm kinda put off practicing the idea in case I screw up the sound I have at the moment :/

You go by feel. see how it feels to tighten or losings one of the good tension rods then put it back to fix the bads to that feeling.

Always carry a spare snare drum. Swap out the snare quickly.
If its a tom, just play around it and fix it between sets.
If its a kick, they really dont have to be tuned perfectly to sound decent for a gig, so throw the head on and give it a quick turn on each lug, and then take the time to tune it between sets.

the only head ive ever broken during a gig is a snare batter head, but i always have another snare drum with me. so i change drums instead of heads. really i wouldnt worry too much about it , im a pretty heavy hitter and in my 40 some years of drumming ,ive only broken a head 1 time at a gig .
