Dude, it doesn't even sound easy...
lol, I swear it. He likes to see me in pain while I try and learn new stuff.
I finally got the Bossa Nova and The purdie/bonham shuffle down to where i'm comfortable and he says "ok now that you have the bossa down, play the ostinato with your feet and play all the note subdivisions over top of that" Sounds easy, until I tried it.
then he took my shuffle groove that took me hours upon hours to get down and changed all of the kick drum beats and pulled out some of the ghost notes.
he just said "and this is how you'll own the groove"
Dude, it doesn't even sound easy...
No pain no gain! F/T
You'll thank him later when your whippin' out blazin beats around the kit... with ease. All of this will lead to great independence and versatility.
Maybe not on the same level Quadcam, but I can still relate. Just as I am basking in the glory of mastering a task that I have been given, my teacher just keeps asking for more. It just isn't fair I tell ya!

I thought I was alone!! My teacher does something similar. I'll figure out something like the sticking, and I'll do everything except the bass, and it will take me at least 4 tries before I get the bass down.

yeh it's frustrating but totally rewarding when you actually get it down.
2 weeks ago I said "there is no way I'm ever going to get the Bossa down"
but today I was jamming along to backing tracks of Blue Bossa and Black Orpheus.
I'm really not a Jazz fan, it's ok just not really my thing but it's very technical so I do like that aspect. The songs are kinda growin on me a little

I'm almost confident enough to go play these two at my teaches Jazz Jam at this local bar, maybe in a few more weeks.
My instructor does all the same things.
