Default Favorite Drummer... WITH A TWIST

Who's your favorite drummer? A common question, and already a thread here. So who's your favorite drummer, not including the 'obvious' choices (Peart, Bonham, etc)?

Mine has to be Steven Drozd (of the Flaming Lips).
i must be the only hip hop fan here

Mines Travis Barker, sort of obvious but I don't here his name much. And also Lester Estelle from the band Pillar is a pretty wicked drummer.

I really dig Morgan Rose from Sevendust. The dudes got some wicked chops! I also like Brian Vodinh from 10 Years.

An unobvious one: I dunno even know what the blokes name is, but I've always loved the drumming in Bolt Thrower. It's not particularly complex or fast or technical or anything, but by god it always grooves like nothing else.

Yea, ive always kinna liked sum 41, and steve jocz has that look that i wanna pull off when i drum, im not much for trying to make my stuff look fancy, and i dont care what i look like, but it would be tight if i could pull of the look he does

That is: T-Shirt/Beater, Baseball hat pulled low, playing style low, like your looking down on your drums

mitch mitchell was an amazing drummer for his time, I don't think he matched Jimi's guitar skill, but he deffinitly added somethine to the Jimi Hendrix Experiance

Mitch Mitchell had sort of rudamental jazzy flare, which, like you said added something to the band.
I also think he was really underrated, he had tecnique that could run circles around some of the drummers of the time. He also had a deep pocket. I have a lot of respect for his playing...

I think Charlie Benante is way underrated, and I'm no anthrax fan. My son has played some of it for me, and that guy is pretty good. Also, Gregg Bissonette has done alot of recording, and can play anything.

Here"s a short list: Vinnie Colaiuta, Manu Katche, Stewart Copeland, Neil Peart (of course) Phil Collins (an excellent example of singing and drumming 5 way coordination) Bill Bruford. But that list is the obvious for anyone regularly reading "Modern Drummer". If you've gotta earn your bread doing Top 40 covers here, here's who I listen to: ALL Steely Dan drummers (Jeff Porcaro, Jim Gordon, etc) Derrick MacKenzie (Jamiroquai) John Robinson (Chaka Khan, Wacko Jacko et al) Rodney Holmes (Santana). Plus theres a number of Australian guys who you should check out: John Farriss (INXS) Rob Hirst (Midnight Oil) Dan Hume (Evermore), Andrew Gander (jazz sessions) Mark Kennedy (Renee Geyer), David Jones (too many sessions), Grant Collins (a real Bozzio head, who also does pop sessions!), Chris Brien (brilliant independence that guy)

Chad Szeliga (I hope I spelled his name right) new drummer for Breaking Benjamin.
Jeremy Hummel was pretty cool too.

uhh... the drummer for Bush is cool too.

    Nicko McBrain - Iron Maiden

Marcus Randolph - Robert Randolph and the Family Band.

uhh... gimme some time to think...
