Hey DF, depends on the purpose, but lots of stuff is out there. If its about "silent practice" you can buy something called soundoffs. They sit right on your heads, just take them off when the band arrives (or the parents/ spouse/ neighbors leave). Or you can replace your normal heads w/ mesh heads. You can buy those at any major drum retailer, or online. Of course, you'd have to change back for band practice.
If its about "I am way too loud for this room!!" that is a bit trickier. You can try the plexiglass divider thing. Sometime a 3ft wall w/ insulation and plexi on top will help. Of course, you might also learn to play a little quieter, use rods, etc. Good luck.

The divider helps you learn ot play quieter because all the sound you make is forced back onto you - it can be really loud. I've never heard of the mesh heads, that sounds interesting.

Hah, those dividers don't work that well. I can't tell the difference in the sound, because I'm wearing my earplugs.

HB is right about the divider, but it will help some. As for mesh heads, CC you ever see the Pearl rhythm traveler with the cloth/mesh heads? How about the Pacific drums chameleon kit, cloth heads on one side and regular on the other. But you can now buy the heads separately to fit most drums. About 90% volume reduction, close to the same feel. Its like playing a V-drum pad.

I cut out some of the Rubber Maid material. It's thinner than the stuff they sell at Guitar Center. (cheaper too!)

Drum....quietly? Why would you want to do that?

Actually, XJ99s' idea is brilliant. I think I might try that out myself.....
