    Default DC area folks

I live in Alexandria, Virginia, just over the Potomac from Washington, DC.

Old Town, Alexandria is a beautiful place to visit, with a good number of music venues. 9:30 club where many concerts are held (place frequented by music luminaries) is nearby. Early spring, cherry blossom festival, all nice!

Hope there are other drumchat folks in the neighborhood.

Hey guys--did not see your recent posts til now. Let's definitely get together at some point. I practice near Old Town, currently have my kits in the basement with much of our recording stuff.

Practice areas around here in short supply--one of my constant gripes. Have to look for non traditional practice space availability (currently have space in converted school).

Yeah--Route 1 is suffering a bit. Hoping for some more revitalization (started to redevelop, then recession, hope it ramps up again).

    Tad

I'm in Glen Burnie, MD - I'm about 20 minutes out of downtown Baltimore, and about 45-60 minutes out of downtown DC - depends on traffic. I gig playing trumpet and singing in an upscale wedding band, and we do a handful of jobs every year in or near Alexandria.

That's not that far. Sorry for the lag time with picking up this thread! Was traveling and have not monitored this, until I saw a reminder in the "what Drumchat members have you met before" thread! I am not too far from Old Town, Alexandria.

Still think there should be a mid-Atlantic coast section on this thread! We are closer to some of the northeastern folks than, say, those in Florida!

What's the drumming scene like in Prague? (Off topic, but perhaps somewhat on, as you get back to the DC area when you are Stateside!)

well, nobody here knows how to play the cajon...the music scene here is pretty open, but not really good to make a living off. there is one dedicated drum store here (not far from me too!), buying used and new is more expensive. I'd really love to do go-go music, these vanilla faces wouldn't know what hit them!

Ah too bad about the cost. Like when I was in Japan--mind blowing cost of living. Worth it to try a bit of go-go music if there is a chance---sounds like the scene could use some new energy.

Definitely check in with us when you get back to this area.

The cost of living is cheap, drums not so much. The handmade Turkish cymbals here are about 30% cheaper than in the states...since my mom moved to cambridge md, and with my bro in b'more and dad still in columbia, it looks like my center of gravity is a bit more north, but yea, if you have a gig or something come xmas time, i'd check it out!
