any of you heard of the device for double bass users that attaches to a hi hat? it changes the mechanics so that when you press down the pedal the hat goes up. danny carey uses one

At 16ths @ about 160bpm at the moment.

Increasing speed from there is really hard for me. I think I need some new/better pedals. I've been learning on a crappy Sonic Drive pedal. I'm probably still looking towards the Iron Cobra pedal.

How do you measure your BPM? I'm thinking id be pretty high up there if i stuck it out at my fastest hits for a minute

I think people have confused how you're meant to measure your speed. You don't measure how many hits you can play per minute, you measure the tempo that you can play comfortably at, and note the subdivision.

32ndHeartbeat's 210bpm isn't much because he didn't specify a note value. If he was playing quarters, he'd only be playing 210bpm. But if he was playing 8ths he'd be playing 420 notes in one minute.

Seriously guys, saying tempos doesn't mean anything unless you specify a note value. It's a pet hate of mine when drummers go "I can play 300bpm", I probably could too, if I was playing a straight quarter rock feel.
