Hey Andy Tama - I know I'm late in posting this but I only joined the forum last week, but just thought I would let you know that I'm from Manchester, England, so not too far away from you. Are we the only English people on here? Not that it makes a difference, I was just wondering.

Hey HiHaaT, where in Manchester are you? I am currently based in Ashton-Under-Lyne (which isn't really Manchester but its close enough) I have lived in Newton Heath and New Moston, just curious to see where you are from? but don't worry about it if you don't want to be so specific its not a problem.

I'm in Woking Surrey, but i used to live in Manchester. I went to Salford Uni, lived in Salford (on the precinct!!), Segely Park and Heaton Moor. Worked at the ICL factory just outside Ashton under Lyne. Long time ago now though.

Hey TPO, thats cool. My day job is in Salford Quays just down the road from the Lowry mall and I currently live in Ashton. How long have you been drumming? Do you play in a band?

My first job was on Magentic Quay in Salford Quays! Used to love going to the Starvin Marvins for lunch. That was 12+ years ago now and I don't even know if its still there!.

I've been meaning to try drumming for 20 odd years, but could never afford the price of a kit, plus was in rented accomodation which isn't ideal for a really noisy hobby, so I just never got round to giving it a try.

Until May this year, when I encountered someone locally who was selling a Pearl Forum kit with cymbals for £60. At that price, and now having a detached house, I decided to give it a punt (with a lot of encouragement from my wife who loves musical stuff).

Discovered I really love it, and from what my tutor says I have something of a natural aptitude. Not meaning to blow my own trumpet, he just said I picked up a lot of the basics really quickly, which is cool!

Right now I'm not in a band and no particular plans to find one. I'm cruising in to middle age and very much playing because I enjoy it rather than any aspiration to live the dream and be a rock star. Not that I would be averse to that, but I already have a good job which supports my family and I can't imagine the circumstances where I would risk that stabillity for the risky prospects of stardom! I'm also a long way off the standard I'd need to play in a band. I can do a good basic beat, and a few simple fills, but there's not really any variation in what I play.

However, once I get a bit better, I could see me maybe getting involved with some sort of local band. The sort that play for fun rather than trying to make a serious go of it, if you see what I mean.
