    setting up my dw on kitbuilder, thanks for the inspiration BTG. which wood do you think is the best out of birch, poplar, rosewood, and maple?

    Maple doesn't have a sound that is as nice as rosewood, but it is a lot stronger so I would also have to agree...

    DW doesn't make a bad drum kit. If they made one out of partical board it would be awesome. The different woods they offer are more about looks and subtle tone differences, not quality. There's also a big price difference between plentiful domestic hardwoods, like maple, and exotic tropical woods, like bubinga.

    Why do you think they call certain types of wood HARD ROCK MAPLE?

    Ths shells are made of maple or birch.....the rest is a finish ply, for aesthetics. Birch tends to be of a higher tonal range, with more attack, better for jazz or pop music, and maple tends to have slightly lower tonal values, better for rock/metal music.
    Word to the wise : don't mess with the drummer.
