Default How far out is your hi-hat stand from your snare?

Mine's set up just a smidge away, and my slave pedal is attached to it.

I know there is a lot of variance in each person's kit set up..I'm curious.

About 4 or 5 inches away at about the 10:00 o'clock position, and about 5 inches above my snare.

Fullstop, I have my hi-hat about 3-4 inches off my snare in about the 9:30 position, and it's about 6-7 inches above the snare. I like it close, and it still accomodates my double pedal.

If you're looking at my kit from above, the hi hat just overlaps the edge of the snare drum.

MY drums are set up right handed and the spacing between the right edge of the HH to the left edge of my snare is 4 1/2". My bottom hat is 8" above the rim of my snare.

I don't think about spacing with the rest of the kit, my set up routine is as follows.

Set the Stool to a comfortable height and sit on it with nothing in the way. Look where the right foot naturally sits, and put the bass pedal directly under there. Look where the left foot sits, and put the Hi-Hat there. Lift the hands with the sticks held comfortably, the shoulders relaxed and the elbows at more or less right angles. Where the sticks are is where I put the snare.

Comfort = Relaxation. Relaxation = Groove.

I do that with my bassdrum pedals. I put the hihat stand right next to my slave pedal.
