Nice. The kick was overdriving my headphones, but the tone of the snare and toms was great.

its clipping. not just the kick.

which means going over the max volume to record cleanly. i wanted to make sure, so i listened to it on my home theater and got the same result.

are you using the line out or headphone out? if its the headphone out turn it down and try again. its not clipping bad, but it is.

Ohh.. yes indeed! I made at least two more after that one and got the levels down where they need to be... but that was the only track that had anything resembling decent drumming on it.

I usually experimentwith the mix at first with my computer and phones (M-Audio card and Audio Technica phones).. then test on the JBL monitors and then out to the PA and finally to a set of Altec Lansing 'puter speakers on another 'puter using a typical soundcard.

At the moment I can mix 12 lines in... but just a single stereo out, so I'm looking fwd to picking up a true 8in/8out mixer (ie: Fast Track Ultra 8R) that I can use with Pro Tools M-Powered. That will open up a whole new world for both Mic'd acoustic drums and triggering VST instruments via midi that can be tweaked "after the fact" in ways I can only dream of now.

Alas, until that day I'm stuck in the adjust/record/adjust again cycle..LOL
