    Default Drummer injury maybe??

Hi all.. I've been playing drums for around 15 years and was quite happy with my ability and speed. I'm a single stroke roll hard hitting type of guy and play in a power 3 piece rock band. I always play heel up and fast doubles were never an issue, until the past year!
Whilst playing now my ankle sort of gives way and my heel falls?
It's becoming really frustrating and I'm beginning to doubt my skills, my band signed last year and I've never played worse.
Even worse- I'm travelling 5000 miles next month to record with a very well known producer and I'm afraid to let my band down.
Practice doesn't seem to help. Infact seems to make things worse?
I have the same DW9000 pedal for years which is in great condition.
Can any of you lot gimme some sort of idea whats going on??
Sorry my first post is a whiny one!
    Cheers

Welcome to Drumchat DrumPhill. Congrat on getting signed. As far as your issues:
    Questions:
1)-You had your DW9000 pedal for "years"- Last spring tension replacement was when? or ever changed them?
2)-What type of footwear if any do you wear during playing?
3)-Pain issues with the ankles or just "gives out and heel goes flat?"

Some more details may help bring more members by your thread.

Hi. I have never changed the spring on the DW but it seems pretty good. I even bought a new Iron Cobra just to give me a different reference point but still had the same issues.

I always wear slip on vans when playing.

There is no intense pain like a cramp but when I go for a double stroke my heel hits the floor with a sort of dull ache??

Plantar Fasciitis, Heel Spur, Heel Pain

Try Dr. Soles inserts to help support the heel and the arch. Good luck.

Plantar fasciitis (pronounced PLAN-tar fashee-EYE-tiss) is an inflammation of the plantar fascia. "Plantar" means the bottom of the foot, "fascia" is a type of connective tissue, and "itis" means "inflammation". Heel spurs are soft, bendable deposits of calcium that are the result of tension and inflammation in the plantar fascia attachment to the heel. Heel spurs do not cause pain. They are only evidence (not proof) that a patient may have plantar fasciitis. The plantar fascia encapsulates muscles in the sole of the foot. It supports the arch of the foot by acting as a bowstring to connect the ball of the foot to the heel. When walking and at the moment the heel of the trailing leg begins to lift off the ground, the plantar fascia endures tension that is approximately two times body weight. This moment of maximum tension is increased and "sharpened" (it increases suddenly) if there is lack of flexibility in the calf muscles. A percentage increase in body weight causes the same percentage increase in tension in the fascia. Due to the repetitive nature of walking, plantar fasciitis may be a repetitive stress disorder (RSD) similar to tennis elbow. Both conditions benefit greatly from rest, ice, and stretching. Surgery is a last resort and may result in more harm than good in up to 50% of the patients.

I agree with atomcorr. It could be plantar fascitis, and it could be something else. If it is interfering with all that you say, then it is worth a professional opinion.

I've been trying all sorts of insoles, ice packs and stuff like voltarol to try and overcome it but I think it's time for a professional opinion as you say.
I think it could be RSI related because sometimes if I play someone else's kit and I'm not familiar with the setup I can sometimes play to a decent standard.
I'll go see my GP and see if he will refer me to a specialist.
    Thanks for the info guys!
