Default Remo Emperors vs. Evans G2s

i am currently using Remo heads, Emperor X on the snare, pinestripes on the toms, powerstroke 3 on the bass drum

i would like to try unmuffled heads to see if i like them better, i have also been considering trying Evans drumheads, i know that the pinestripes and the EC2s are very different, but is there any difference in emperors and g2s?

They are essentially the same head. Go with whatever is cheaper really. LOL

Actually, I disagree with what was said above. It is true that Remo uses a coating that actually gives off a slightly warmer tone. However, Evans durability is far superior to Remo's. Now, I would not let that change your mind completely. Choose what head you think you would like the most. It's better to have a sound pleasing to your ear than to pick something that will last longer.

Buy 1 each same sized heads for the same drum, and test each to find out which sound you like the best. Also, pick up an Aquarian Response 2 head because it is also the same idea as g2's and emps. Try each one, take some audio, and find out which one fits your sound best.

If you are comparing a clear g2 and clear emperor, they will sound almost identical. If you are comparing a coated g2 and coated emperor, they will also sound almost identical. However, Remo's coating will chip\flake off much faster than evans. I've had my coated g2's for over 6 months now and the coating is still the same as the day I first bought them.

Good choice! I got G2s and think they're awesome! I might try the EC2s next. I hated the first generation EC2s but am hearing good things about the SSTs, so I'm gonna give those a go the next time I change heads.

i've had coated g2's on my toms for a couple weeks and have beat the heck out of them and they still look brand new and sound great. remo's were what i had first and they sounded good but they looked like i had been beating on them with a sledgehammer after a few hours. just something you might consider.

I was in that position before and decided to go for the Evans G2 clear over the Emperors on all toms and was impressed with the sound and durability.

    coated emperors on everything. i've
ALWAYS had problems with evans!! they pop out of the hoop and they go dead waaaaaaay faster then remo. Evans have left me stranded on gigs too many times! remo also feels a little better to me!

I usually go Remo, but I recently got a new (to me) Tama Starclassic birch that need all new heads and I got a better deal with Evans so I tried out some Evans G2 clears with the new 360 mojo and they sound great, and they tuned up super fast! I think I'm gonna keep Evans on this Tama kit and keep Remo on my Pearl Kit because Coated Vintage Emperors sound sooo amazing on that kit ( and Evans doesn't have an equivilent head).

I'm currently using clear Emps as the batter and clear ambos as the reso on all my toms...............PS4 on the bass batter and PS3 on the bass reso...........on the snare however, I have a coated Vintage Emp as the batter and an Evans snareside...................love the sound on all.

meh, evans isn't for me. remo all the way, but thats just cause my evans experiences werent good. As far as remo coating chipping away never experienced that. Wait actually i did once but thats because it was the stock head on a snare i had bought. Never happened to me again. All i play on my snares is coated pst3 or coated ambos. Imo evans are better for bass drums and toms, but mainly bass drums.

I think remo sounds better than evans. Always have and dont know why. The emperors sound smoother to me than the g2's. the g2's imo are cold and slappy.

I wonder how many drumheads people are trying before they write off a company? Evans doesn't make just the g2's, it makes all kinds of sounds for all kinds of players' needs. Lately they seem to be putting out a lot of new innovations that seem to be unmatched by the other guys. Remo does have a nice coated head sound but I don't personally feel they're as tailored towards heavy hitters as Aquarian or especially Evans are. If you don't like one type of head a company makes, there's a lot others to check out.

I use Remo heads exclusively except for my kick (16" x 24") where I use an Evans clear EMAD head (no internal muffling except felt strip on reso side). I had a Remo PS Pro on there but I just didn't like it...no tone, to my ears.

Coated CS Emperor on my main snare over Ambassador hazy snare side. Clear Emps over clear Ambs on all three toms (13", 16" & 18").

I am leaning toward the clear Vintage Emperors when I replace my three tom batter heads.

    It's all good!
