Exclamation Looking for Very Fast Decay China

I have a Paiste China right now that in my opinion rings out too long, in other words it has a long decay.

I am looking for a 18"-ish China with a very fast decay, the faster the better. Not sure which one to get (thats why I need your help). Sites like musiciansfriend do little to help differentiate between each one and the reviews conflict even from what the description states.

I need a very fast decay because the parts where I use it are precise but very heavy.

So any opinions or suggestions on this would be great!

I put in your criteria on Sabian's cymbal finder and the only result was an AA Fast China. Here's the info from Sabian's site:

    [removed]

Admins, I apologize if that's not allowed. I figured it might be alright since it's not a retail link, it's just the information on the cymbal from the manufacturer.

[It's actually not allowed. It's a commercial site that sells from that location. - Drummer ]

The china with the fastest decay that I've heard/played is the Wuhan 16" china. But for me the decay is a little too short.

Put some weatherstripping or duct tape underneath and That'll shorten the decay. Out of all the expensive china's I've bought I've kept the cheapest one, XS Sabian with duct tape. to shorten the decay. It's more trashy than gongy though

While this is true, I've seen bigger cymbals with faster decay also.

i like just the alpha china, not the rock one, the rock one seems like the frequencies are a little too narrow for me, paiste rude is actually my favorite china i've ever owned. but the rude doesn't have as strong attack for what ur lookin for. u doin retty heavy break downs ya? i would go for the 16'' paiste china..if ur wantin to stick with paiste just look at there website, they all have sound clips of all there cymbals. or maybe even the 14" it doesn't sound like a 14", but it hits hard and has a pretty decent decay..btw i <3 breakdowns :D

Best to "interview" some if your local drum shop has sufficient range of China's. I've found smaller sizes (e.g., around 16 inches or so), and thins (e.g., thin Chinas) decay faster and good for quick accents.

    Powerkor,

For less $$$ you should buy an 18 or 20" Wuhan China. They're cheap, sound great and are the fastest sounding chinas I've ever heard. For more effects, just add a small chain from the stand for a rivetted effect. Price for everything...around $100. Sabian or Zildjian can't say that.

I have a paiste right now. Maybe I'll make a video demo'ing the sound and you can see if you thing its okay for what im doing or not.

I tried duct tape, but that really really kills too much sustain... Cymbals need a little sustain... even if you want a fast decay.

It sounds as if you would benefit more from a stack than a china cymbal. They will be louder than a small china, but have much less decay than a large one. If you listen to some aaron spears videos on youtube, you can hear how his stack sounds and see if that is the sound you are after.

The Zildjian Oriental line has the China Trash cymbal coming in several sizes. It happens to be one of the more popular china voices in hard rock/heavy metal. Might be what you're after.

The only two constants I have are DW and Zildjian.

I'd check out Sabian's SR2 line. Every single cymbal is going to sound differently, but here's a sample of one.

What if you put duct tape or moongels under the playing surface of the cymbal you get? You could turn the tone you like, into the sound you want.

Look into the chinas Joey Jordison uses-fast decay, trashy, perfect chinas IMO. He uses 2002's, RUDES, and Signatures. Mostly 2002's and RUDES, though.
So itchie, how did the kick sound?

I was going to say stack em'. I think it's the sound you're looking for. Your existing Paiste China with a ten inch splash would work fine.

Another vote for Wuhan. I have a 16" china that is wicked short, very loud, and one of my favorite targets. I recently relocated my Wuhan so I can easily bash it with either hand!!
