if its a wood beater it will feel really solid at contact, basically like your plastic side does, of course it may be lighter so it may have a bit of a different force to get it to the head, as in being faster response.

It'll make your bass drum sound clicky with lots of attack, make sure that's the sound you're going for.

Hardly ever use a wood beater, but they are often a little heavier. This might throw your timing off, and takes a while to get used to.

I like my wood beaters. They give a lot more definition to the kick notes.
And the trees are all kept equal by hatchet, axe, and saw. . .

    That one

Also, make sure you have a kick patch or else the wooden beater will probably go through your bass drum head in no time.

I <3 my Iron Cobra wood beaters. FANTASTIC attack. Almost sounds like triggers except, y'know, not lame.

Which side of the Pearl beater do you usually use?

I've never used a wood beater before. I use an old school round, felt Vater in my DW 5000. I don't like the stock DW beater because of the weight.

Vater makes 4 different kinds though, felt, poly, wood, and red wood. Mine has held up nicely for a good 12 years now if your looking for a replacement.
