    Default gaffer's tape

Has anyone tried using this on drums or cymbals to mute unwanted overtones? I have read on other sites that its a must for drummers to always have with them.

I've used it and actually prefer it over duct tape, but it's expensive.

Thanks, right now I use moon gel and overtone rings on the drums and nothing on the cymbals. My cymbals are bright with lots of sustain and for practice purposes I would like to cut the sustain some. Playing live there great.

I do it on my ride, and it helps me hear the notes better by soaking up the overtones.

It's not that expensive. How long does a roll of this stuff last? I'm thinking I'll probably misplace it before I use it all up.

$20 a roll!! . duct tape always worked fine for me. it only costs $3.00. if you ever have sticky stuff left over, there's this stuff called Goo Gone that takes it right off.

I take it back. It's expensive. But if I'm not using it to tape down mic cords and stuff, only using it for drum muffling, won't one roll last a long time?

that's true....but if there's a roll of tape around it's hard to ristrict ones self to a single use...

Gaff tape is good because it doesn't leave any residue on your skins or cymbals. I don't recommend it for drumheads though, for the best muffling, get some Remo Rings. The dampen the sound of your drums evenly and really well.

yeah gaffer tape is expensive but it doesnt leave sticky residues liek duct tape does. maybe masking tape but idk if that would be heavy enough.

i have heard of that but i have never tried it.

gaffers tape is the new duct tape
if you ask a drummer what time it is?!? they're likely to respond with a time signature "oh, it's 4/4"....
