    Default Newbie question

I did a search and did not find the answer to my question. What is the difference between a bass pedal and a long board? The only thing I can figure by what I found is that a long board has a longer pedal (hence the name) for more leverage. Just curious.

The footboard on a longboard is one piece, no heel plate.

You are correct CP. Bass pedal is an all encompassing term for the pedal/beater that is used to play the bass drum of the kit. The term "Longboard" indicates that the bass pedal has a longer than normal "pedal."

I played an Axis longboard double pedal today, the direct drive is quite alien because Im used to a chain drive. But my god, I played faster with them in about half an hour than I ever have with my current pedal.

Now im determined to get two Axis A longboards, one for each bass

    Don't buy until you try.

Seriously, they ARE pretty different to chain drives. And as Derek Roddy says "a fast drummer will be able to play fast on any pedals". It's not the pedal that makes a drummer fast. Sure, they can be a lot more responsive though so you can play to your full potential. But the skills are from the drummer, not the pedals.
