Thanks, PB. A very fat snare sound with the vents closed, to a tight "crack" with vents open. (Then there are variations in between.) Very versatile. Like other DC brothers and sisters, I like a good snare collection! This allows for more versatility when gigging, however (haul as much as we do, and the hauling gets tiring--so the idea of hauling multiple snares is not exciting).

It's a birch snare... that's just a lesser known finish called Copper Mist Metallic.

It's a 14x6.5... and it's the best @#&*!! snare I've ever played on. Pardon the French.

I kept asking people about the snares they used in different recordings and such...what head they used, how they tuned 'em, what type of snare it was (usually Ludwig). Even artists that were endorsed by other brands confessed that they had used one the studio had.
Finally a drummer named Ben Nelson just flat said: "Dude, you want a snare that sounds like a Ludwig... then maybe you should go buy a Ludwig Snare!"
    So I did.

Hi Dave, I'm (still) looking for a snare for my Gretsch Renown Fusion kit (still on back order by the way) and I'm leaning towards a Ludwig given their immense popularity. Among the Ludwig's how did you choose the Black Beauty among the Acrolite, Black Magic or Supra-Phonic?
