I did a “Micheal” style family photo with the snare drums. Mainly because I was cleaning up the drum room and was bored.

Trying to decide out of these 3 snares which to use on New Year's Eve. I'm only playing 2 sets, so it's a simple set-up. The 3 snares are 7X13 and all have Diecast hoops. My OCDP maple with a natural ash finish and my newest addition Tama SLP G-maple and last my Ludwig Black Magic. All three are sounding killer right now. I guess I could flip a coin or something. The OCDP and Tama have HD dry heads and the ludwig has a Aquarian Reflector texture coated head on it. DSC01857.jpgDSC01858.jpgDSC01859.jpg

man I bet all three sound great.
Depending on your music is the metal snare to hollow and loud? (pingy loud)

I love my metal snares especially live cause they cut through everything

How do you like that 13x7 Maple/Ash OCDP?
I saw them on sale right now for $119 and have been seriously considering picking one up. Considering it’s a Maple shell and cast hoops, I could part it out for that. I’d swap the hoops on my 13” Supralite. I could then wrap the OCDP shell in silver sparkle to match my Bop kit.
I’m not a huge fan of woodgrain finishes.

    Play the SONG......not the DRUMS!!!

"I think that feeling is a lot more important than technique. It's all very well doing a triple paradiddle - but who's going to know you've done it? If you play technically you sound like everybody else. It's being original that counts." ~ John Bonham

The drum is killer! Great tone! I had this snare for a while now and love it. I'm just the opposite, I love the wood grain finishes and dislike sparkle finishes. Everybody's different. That's why they have different finishes, lol.

The odd thing is that I used to be all about wood grain drums. For some reason, my preference changed...almost overnight. I think it has more to do with the color more than wood grain. So many of the wood finishes are so neutral in color. I’ve grown to prefer bright colors or finishes that really “pop” on stage. Pearls, Oysters, Mods, Sparkles, etc., seem to appeal more to me now.

Was that owned by Bun, or is it some kind of signature series?

    It was Bun's.

Here is an article from Bun in the spring 2008 NSMD magazine telling the history of these. See the last couple of paragraphs.
