    Welcome to Drum Chat MrEpicX!

Maybe you can define what you mean by "big" sound a little bit more. For instance, are you looking for a drum that really sings - wide open and bright, or are you looking for a sound that is more deep and punchy?

Both great choices of heads for the sound you are looking to create. I would also suggest googling "Drum Tuning Bible" for some great instruction on tuning.

I agree with the suggestions for Remo Pinstripes, and you might also check out Evans Onyx heads.

Plus 1 on all the suggestions listed it is all about what sound you are looking for. Another way would be to visit the Manufacturers of the drumheads like Evans,Remo and Aquarians and see what they offer for the style that interests you.

I found Evans hydraulics to be deep and punchy on similar sized toms (basswood/maple) on my old kit. They don't totally kill the resonance, but the overtones pretty much disappear. I'd be more inclined to recomend EC2's based on what you said you're looking for.
