Hello all, first time poster. Happy to be here.

I was lucky enough to scoop a modestly priced Yamaha DTXPress III off craigslist. During the school year I live with 4 other house mates, so I was never able to really play past 10pm (the neighbors were an issue as well). I'm psyched to be able to satisfy my late night drum cravings! Unfortunately, I've been so busy within this past week I bought it, I havent gotten a chance to really sit down and play with custom sounds for my own custom kit.

So if you have a DTX series and made a custom kit, share it here! I'm interested to see everyone elses settings so to fine tune my own a bit more when I have a chance.

    Keep rocking

I'm quite familiar with the late night drum jones, plus living aboard a ship for half of the year, it wasnt really possible to cart my accoustic kit around. So i picked up a DTXplorer about a month ago. i'm just thrilled with it. I havent built a custom kit yet either, but im planning on doing on eventually.

So far ive used the studio kit mostly, but im interested to see what others have done.

I have a 15 year old DTXpress III as well, never did much with custom stuff. My son uses it as a practice kit. But we are going to get a MIDI interface and hook it up to a PC and use BFD for new and better sounds. Will keep you posted!

I have a DTXplorer and love it. I've customized the extra kits with 3 crashes and moved my "2nd tom" to the right as a ride. It's great. No problems with it and been enjoying it for a couple years now.

I just bought one and I'm wondering if any of you have added pads to it? Is it possible? It seems there are only enough inputs for the pads that it originally comes with. I REALLY need to add to it, so if anyone has any tips feel free to chime in!!

I built several kits but most have "maple" toms with various snares.

I didn't realize the DTXpressIII was 15 years old. I bought a used module just a few months ago and mated it with a DTXpressIV pad set. I'm really enjoying the III dispite its age and dated voices. Welcome to DC!

I don't believe the DTXpress is 15 yrs. old (probably about 5-6 yrs. old)...I think he meant he has a DTXpress III and a 15 yr. old son who plays it...

I believe that's right...I have a catalog from the 2001 timeframe that has the original DTXpress when it came out...

No, I think you are limited to the inputs. The higher end models have more toms thus more inputs but the less expensive modules are limited to the input selection on the module and no expansion capabilities. Roland produces expandable add on modules for their top kits.

The DTXplorer can be expanded. I answered the question in Ike's other thread:

Nice! I won't get a chance to really sit down and play with the settings until probably Monday night. I'm excited to create a great custom kit.

4 years old or not, I scooped mine up used for $400 and it works like a charm!

i just fiddled around with a custom setup a few hours ago. I kept the 22 maple BD, but switched the reverb settings around a little. I changed the snare to one of the vintage maple ones, with a nice high crack. I switched my hats to the 13" settings. i like the brighter sound a lot better than the 14". I designated tom2 as my cool ride, and made the ride cymbal a ride bell. im not sure i like that setup yet, still messing around with it.

I'm coming to the conclusion that i am rapidly outgrowing the single zone snare pad... The Dtxplorer will accept a multiple zone snare right?

Yes. You can get the three-zone pad for around $90. The additional two zones will be in the rim; one for cross stick and one for rim shot.
