    Default Restoration / Premier

Hi folks , I am seeking advice from members of this site. and those especially knowledgeable of Premier.
I have recemtly acquired a Premier Resonater 4 piece drum kit and would like to restore it to decent performing condition.
The inside shells are in very good condition.
I am very excited about this set as it is odd sizes: 14x24 bass, 9x13,,10x14,
16x15 . This is a pic from the seller. I will post a pic of the dust off .

Took possession of this Premier Resonator Kit, took off the old heads and cleaned them up some.
The Badge date 1970-1980. need to know what year that metallic red was offered.
I am going to stick with the original wrap for now.
Looks like I am going to need a 24" hoop, bottom rims and tension rods for the toms. I did score 8 Premier bass drum tension rods and claws on ebay. Got those in today. Need 2 more but have some that will work for now.
Can salvage the original Bass hoop. Wish I had the other rims as they are really nice and heavy. The lugs on all the drums are in great shape. Premier knew how to chrome plate. Not sure what heads I will get.
If you notice the inside shells are smooth. They are shells within a shell but can be removed. I am still trying to find out the correct way to get those out.
I did find a little Premier insructional from someone but it is not very detailed.
The bass drum inner sheel was not in it but no big deal. I do like the cymbal arm mount on the Bass drum. Have to find the cymbal arm part for it.

There called Resonator series toms. There is a thin piece of wood inside the outer shell with the support rings on the top and bottom in between the inner and outer shell.. Air is in between there. That is the resonator shell I want to remove then put it back in.. The inside smooth wood shell, so I can remove the lugs for cleaning, maintenance, re-wrap, etc. Not sure what ply they are.

You're right I didn't even notice the lack of lug screws. I feel stupid! that makes since though you should be able to get those out if you can loosen the glue top and bottom. How you would do that I don't have any suggestions with out seeing them physically. keep us up to date on your project it looks really interesting!

Thanks xpkpremier. I had been to that guys site but it was under construction. I had a blurry .jpg of those instructions and could not make a lot out of them.
This will help me immensely. Wonder what the special tool is?
Maybe a butter knife will work. One guy said he got his out useing a swiss army knife.

Moving along slowly but surely. Going through every screw and nut on these things. used Cycledudes suggestion of soaking lug screws, washers, lug inserts, etc. in white vinegar for a day. Dollar store $1. Let me tell you it works. Clean and spray with WD40. I clean the lugs with Colonial Brassy.
Got the resonator inserts out with no trouble. Just had to study and figure on it a while. Those birch inserts are very bendable but you have to be gentle. Shells looked good on the inside. Could probably go with or without the inserts but will put them back in for originality.
Surprise when I took out the floor tom insert. Wood is completely different color. So are they maple, birch, mahogany?

Looks like you are coming along well VIbes. I recently had to break down my kit, so my Roto Toms are broken down as well. When I got them used, they had quite a bit of rust on them (they had been in a damp basement). I cleaned them up a bit, and always meant to clean them up even better, but i just never got around to it. I think that while they are dowm I will try the white vinegar treament.

Default Finished the Restoration / Premier

Here is the finished mid 70's Premier Resonators I started on in early July. I put Remo coated ambassadors on both sides of the toms and Remo Powermax Bass heads on both sides of the kick. I can't believe how good these drums sound.
24x14 13x9 14x10 16x15. Definately have to take these out to play on a gig.

Those old Premier's look great! WOW! I have a Premier Heavy Rock Nine snare drum that I purchased in the early 90's and I am having it completely refurbished. The snare is 9" deep, it's a MONSTER! I actually just dropped the drum off yesterday to have the work started. I will post some before and after pics when finished.
