Just wondering what everybody else is using. I just got a couple of pairs of Promark TX808N American Hickory. In the past I used Promark Billy Cobham Signature Japanese Oak. But, they discontinued that model. I like the longer length and round ball nylon tip. How does the hickory stand up to the oak sticks?

I am currently using the Pro-Mark Benny Grebs, although I prefer a shorter stick, what I like is a short thick stick (I tried Phil Collins sticks but they are too short, I like the Vic Firth JoJo Mayer, but find them not too hard wearing), I like the Vater Fusion and Excel models too.

I love a round tip too! but I prefer a wooden tip I find the Oak to be VERY hard wearing, but Pro Marks hickory is also very hard wearing, not so much as the Oak though The 808 looks a nice stick, I like the look of it, might give a pair a try

You should give them a try. Nice chunky stick with great balance.

Pro Mark Shira Kashi Oak 7A Wood Tip. I usually use Vic Firth 7A. Trying out Pro Mark because they're made of oak and go longer w/o chipping.

Vater 5a. I've used Vater sticks for over 2 years now, and tried a few different models (Universal, 5b, and now 5a). As a whole, I must say I prefer Vater sticks over Vic Firth and Pro-Mark. Vic Firths were not too bad, but the tips broke relatively fast, and do not even get me started on Pro-Marks. I broke a pair of their oak sticks in a few days, and their hickory ones in 1 practice session. Not built for heavy rimshots I guess..

Promark 5B. In my 4 years of drumming I only broke one stick, it was a vic firth and I think it was because of poor technique

ProMark 808 hickory, wood tip. I dip the grip end in a little plasti-dip for a rubberized grip. Been doing this for years.

Pretty much any 5A most of the time. 7A's either for Jazzy stuff, or if I need to rock and keep the volume down a bit. 2B's if I REALLY need volume.

I use Dr Zoggs Sex Wax for extra grip. Man, that stuff is BRILLIANT!!!

It's VF 5A (wood tip or nylon tip) for me.
VF 5B for some harder hitting stuff.

Got a bunch of Zildjian 5A (nylon tip) as special offer in my local drum shop last week and they are actually not that bad. Tips are a bit slimmer than the VF's though.

I would always use ProMark Japan Oak with the nylon tips. Can't remember the size for the life of me, but they sure did handle the beatings I gave them.
    Love me some 240sx also

I use Buddy Rich Sigs by Vic Firth. I love them, I have tried pro-mark, usually 5a or 2b back in the day, but I always went back to vic firth's 5a's. Then my parents bought me some BR sigs and I tried them just to humor my parents, but they are awesome. I feel like they are way more responsive, I love the sound they make on the cymbals, and they last forever.
