Default I got bored so I created a Frankenstein E-kit

I wanted to share some pics of my Frankenstein e-kit. I mated my Yamaha DTXressIII/IV pad set to my '80s Tama TechStar 5305 ekit pad set. After spending a few hours racking up both kits, I was able to combine both drum modules together using my Peavey XR8600 PA head as a "bridge". I was surprised how much warmer the analog voices were from the Techstar module.

The Yamaha bass drum pedal was a challenge to mount. I didn't want to use a piece of carpet so I bolted both bass drums to the rack. The Tama bass drum is bolted to the HiHat stand which is also bolted to the rack.

I used a Pearl bass drum hoop clamp that I attached to the base of the Yamaha bass drum and grabbed the pedal with a Gibraltar cymbal grabber with a LP percussion rod to secure the bass drum pedal in place

The wires were run along the Gibraltar rack with strips of velcro to secure the wire to the horizontal pipes

I wish that I understood the electronics end of things as well as you do late8. Your resourcefulness amazes me. I'd love to hear a sample.

Very nice set-up and sound system to run it thru. How do you like the Gibraltar hi-hat and is it a direct or liquid drive? Looks like you've got several acoustic kits too. Sweet!

Those Tama pads are interesting. How do they feel compared with the Yamaha's?

The Tama pads are very hard. No rebound of "feel" whatsoever! Beneath the black drum head is a piece of cheap plywood backing. It feels like hitting a wooden desk top.

LOL! That's awful! Why do you keep them? The rubber pads are dirt cheap nowadays.

Why do I keep them?....cause I'm frugal. I have drum hardware I've kept for over 20 years.
