I marched DCI back in the day. Open Class is fine, but World Class is worth it if you can pull it off. It's not even in the same league.

Since you're in Indiana though, you can go next year since they are locked in at Lucas Oil for like the next ten years. Go check out some rehearsals or go hang out in the parking lot for Worlds. You will see some insane drumming.

...............im speechless........ the DCI open finals were amazing. Its stunning how well they can play, now well they can march together, and how they can combine the two to make 10 minutes breathtaking. It did seem like it dragged on a bit, since it lasted about 3.5 hours, but i loved every second. I how every percussionist can expand their horizons and experience some form of a DCI event once in their lifetime. I can't wait for next year.

I was part of an open class this year, marched a 30" bass for Spokane Thunder, lol. Anyway, we ended up with a 74.0 total, putting us in 7th in open class. Pretty good for a returning year I'd say. I'm probably going to take a year off because I've been invited to study culture and stuff in Italy (which is like...once in a lifetime, figure I shouldn't pass it up) but the next year...well, still not sure who I'd want to try out for. If only based on this year, I'd like to try out for the cavvies or phantom. Cavaliers had an incredible show, but Phantom just had such a clean line. As for open class...well, not that it isn't absolutely intense, but I just want to see the difference between world and open. See what I like better. Oh, and given I might not make cavvies or phantom :P I'll probably try out for several corps, it's just a matter of who I can afford really...

But who won? Cavaliers or Devils? Last I remember, Blue devils were a point ahead of cavs. btw I might try out for cavs. We're going to the competition hosted by NIU and Regiment at NIU next weekend. Not this coming one though.

I played baritone sax in marching band in high school but always envied the drumline. I find the sound of a killer corps invigorating and always appreciate the flashy snare solo's of DCI championships.

I saw blast! on stage three times when they were touring the world. I also own the DVD with the original cast recorded in London. A simply fantastic show whether you are a musician or not. Even won a Tony award and had an extensive run on Broadway.

it amazes me what people can do in a drum line,

I wonder what a marching drum snare would sound like on a kit?

uh, oh, i got a new idea in my head, o well, maybe ill give it a try.

I go to my local drum shop and purchase my sticks. I like to touch them before I buy them ;-)
