    Default Your Favorite drumline exercises!

Ok, I am new to all these different exercises, like 1 trip let, 13's, 8 5 1's and so on. I would enjoy a thread of exercises references you guys enjoy. If possible post the sheet music and a little discription on how to do it.

single hand 13's accents are capitol:

ONE trip let, TWO trip let THREE trip let FOUR trip let.

one TRIP let, two TRIP let, three TRIP let, four TRIP let

one trip LET, two trip LET, three trip LET, foru trip LET. (repeat)

I am sure there is a better way to discibe this and will not be offended if I am corrected(I am trying to learn here).
Come on you drumliners, Show me the music! F/T

I saw this cool warm up exercise that goes through the following progression (in 2 measure cycle):

    1. quarter notes
    2. quarter note triplets
    3. eighth notes
    4. eighth note triplets
    5. sixteenth notes
    6. sixteenth note triplets
    7. 32nd notes (optional)

You can also do this with your dbl pedals if you have them.

i know it sounds basic but easy, but i enjoy setting the 40 rudiments to a 16th note based rhythm and play each for a minute or 2 with varying dynamics, sticking, etc

Im in the pit, but originally auditioned for bass drum, but being a freshman lost out to upperclassmen. We do this exercise called Double Beat, and the split part is so much fun.

I go to my local drum shop and purchase my sticks. I like to touch them before I buy them ;-)

I posted this several months ago, but it includes your triplet accent variation. More than a few clams, but it is all first take attempts.

    My favorite stuff to do...hm...
    I like gridding a lot.
Trip grid is basically the one described above.

ONE trip let, TWO trip let THREE trip let FOUR trip let.
one TRIP let, two TRIP let, three TRIP let, four TRIP let
one trip LET, two trip LET, three trip LET, four trip LET.

    but then:

ONE trip let TWO trip let one TRIP let two TRIP let one trip LET two trip LET
ONE trip let TWO trip let one TRIP let two TRIP let one trip LET two trip LET

ONE trip let two TRIP let three trip LET ONE trip let two TRIP let three trip LET
ONE trip let two TRIP let three trip LET ONE trip let two TRIP let three trip LET

same triplet pattern, but with the 4 2 1 idea in mind. Then, you can grid diddles in stead. Then accent all of the down beats, grid the diddles without accenting them. Then you can accent the second or third partial while still gridding diddles. same goes for 16th grid. (ONE e and a TWO e and a...one E and a two E and a...etc etc, same 4 2 1 pattern) with 16 grid I also like to do forwards backwards.

    Start with
    ONE e and a TWO e and a THREE e and a FOUR e and a
    one E and a two E and a three E and a four E and a
    one e AND a two e AND a three e AND a four e AND a
    one e and A two e and A three e and A four e and A

Then, as you go into the two's (only repeat the pattern 2 times in stead of 4) start with the last rhythm, go to the first:

    one e and A two e and A
    one e AND a two e AND a
    one E and a two E and a
    ONE e and a TWO e and a

    then play forwards twice

    ONE e and a TWO e and a
    one E and a two E and a
    one e AND a two e AND a
    one e and A two e and A

    Then ones, starting backwards

    one e and A
    one e AND a
    one E and a
    ONE e and a

    forwards

    ONE e and a
    one E and a
    one e AND a
    one e and A

backwards 1's then forwards 1's again, and the exercise is over. then do diddles and stuff. Gridding is amazing :P

Monopoly is a check pattern of straight 16s that goes into paradiddles, back to the check pattern, into diddles, again to the check pattern, to inverted paradiddles, check pattern, two double paradiddles, two paradiddles, two more double paradiddles, dup.

    No clue what that is.

So just started playing snare like in august, purely drumset player before that. Anyways, heres the exercises I've been able to get so far.

Eight on a hand (quarter notes, each hand)
    Double Beat
Sprinkler (8 quarter on right, 8 quarter on left, 8 quarter on right, 16 16th notes. do again starting with left)
    Legatos (cadence type thing)
Can also do decent double stroke rolls and diddle exercises - RLRLRrLlRrLl
Edit: Also can do the accent pattern, the first part at least, described by Tidus

Any other suggestions? Nothing to insane, just want to push myself a bit. I've got decent technique, not amazingly perfect but not horrible. Playing bass this year :/

Wataru welcome to the form and thanks for your input. Have you tried inverting them or leading with the opposite hand or foot? all the best. F/T

Haven't tried opposite hand. Excuse the noob question, but what do you mean by inverting them?

If you play a para diddle R L RR L R LL. Inverted would be LL R L RR L R. Backwards would have been easier to say I suppose. F/T
