14" Unknown hats, possibly Pearl Wylde. (to be replaced with 2002 14" mediums)
16" Paiste 302 crash with a horrible and growing crack. (to be replaced with 2002 16" crash)
18" Zildjian Oriental Trash Crash (small crack that's turned back to the edge)
17" Paiste Signature Power Crash (odd crack in body that isn't growing)

I've a nice little collection that I can draw from as I change set ups on a whim....lucky me ;-)

Once I can get this all up on Photobucket, I'll post the links.....had to do 3 separate shots of what I got:

Okay...don't get bored with reading this list...here goes:

RIDES: 20" Paiste 2002 Medium (old model black writing), 20" Paiste Sound Formula Full Ride (my #1), 20" UFIP Class Series Ride (nice and pingy).
    CHINAS: 18" Paiste Alpha China (older model), 18" & 20" Paiste 2002 Chinas, 12" & 14" Zildjian ZBT Plus Mini-Chinas.
CRASHES: All Paistes 14" Signature Crystal Crash, 16" Alpha Thin Crash (older model), 18" Sound Formula Thin Crash, 22" 2002 Crash (old model black writing), 12" Formula 602 Thin Crash (cut from a 16"), 14" 2002 Crash (cut from a 16"), 16" 3000 "Thin Crash (cut from an 18"), 16" 2002 Crash (cut from a 18"), 16" 2002 Heavy Crash (slight trim).
HI-HATS: All Paistes 13" Sound Formula Reflector Medium Heavy, 13" Signature Dark Crisp, 12" 2002 Sound Edge Top (cut from a 13") on top of an old 400 series Splash (the top is slightly smaller than the bottom)....plus I make a few combination from the effects cymbals, eg: 10" Rude Splash top/10" Formula 602 Heavy Bell Bottom, or 8" 3000 Bell top/ 8" 2002 Bell Bottom.
EFFECTS: Paiste unless noted 3.5" custom bell made from 8" 2002 Splash, 5.5" UFIP Ice Bell, 5.5" & 7.5" 2002 Cup Chimes, 8" 2002 Bell, 8" 3000 Bell, 7" custom "China Splash" made from an old 2000 Sound Reflector Series Thin China, 3.5" custom bell made from an Alpha Splash, plus the "ring" of remaining material (used as trash effect), 8" Paiste Dimensions Thin Splash, three 8" Wuhan splashes (all sounding different), Paiste Rude 8" Splash (special order), 9" Zildjian Oriental Splash, 10" Paiste Rude Splash, 10" & 11" Formula 602 Heavy Bells.

I think that totals over 40 or more cymbals I've collected over time. Would I set it all up at once? Lol......don't tempt me. I've acquired this lot because I've been playing in a variety of situations. But I sometimes like nothing better than just a hi-hat, ride and 2 crashes, trying to play more with less. Then again, I play as a percussionist as well, so having the variety is like having a library of sounds to choose from, especially when it comes to recording.

I noticed your looking at a 2002 16" crash... Make sure you try a 17" crash to compair. I just added a couple 2002 crashes and went with the 17" over the 16". I thought the 16" was to high pitch but it comes down to what you like. Just letting you know.

Cheers for the feedback, it's always helpful to have multiple views (or ears I guess!). What I'm ultimately after is two crashes, left and right, with the left one being the main crash and the one on the right being a lower tone to give contrast. I've already got a 17" on the right (Sig Power), which isn't exactly what I want, but does give me that lower tone. I've listened to all the various samples on the Paiste site and the 16 is consistently the bright fast note that sounds right to me.

Ultimately I suspect I'll end up replacing the 17" Sig with a 17" 2002, as the general tone and sustain of the Sig, while a lovelly sound in itself, isn't quite what I want in my kit. But with only limited funds to play with that's down the road in the future. I also suspect that the Sig will sound better when paired with a decent cymbal, rather than the wrecked bit of cheap brass I currently have on the left!

I have an older Alpha 18" thin crash. After getting both 2002 crashes, now the thin crash just dos'nt fit in to well, yet my Alpha 18" medium crash blends in very well with the 2002 crashes. I probably use the Alpha medium with the 17" 2002 more than the other 18" 2002! Some of this may be due to the fast that I moved the 18" thin crash to the back of the set. It also sets much lower also. So it's lower and behind me now, cause it sure did'nt sound like it does now. I'm going to try to move it back towards the front and higher on my set to see if it changes the tone any.

All's I'm saying with the 17" crash is try a multitude of cymbals with each other if possible. It takes me weeks of tapping on cymbals before I settle on something to buy. Take your time and keep your horizons broad. I always cover the Sabian and Zildjian cymbals when I go shopping still. Something in me wants to buy a Sabian or Zildjian cymbal, but I'm so used to the tones and sounds from Paiste cymbals, Sabians or Zildjians with the acception of a few hats, just does'nt have the sound for me, but for others it does. Like I said, in the end it depends on what you like.

    Very nice collection, Drumbledore.

It takes a while to set them all up for photo's doesn't it?

Just like herding the kids for school photo's. Except you don't have to entertain the cymbals (to get them to smile) or dress them up for pictures.
