    Unhappy iPod recording hints?

I know these threads are dedicated to more serious recording, or more aesthetic recording but I really just want to hear my drum playing to listen for technique. Is there a way to do this with an iPod?
I have those tiny iPod mics that I stuffed into foam rubber blocks. I then wrapped the iPod in some towels and put everything into a small cardboard box about 15' in front of my kit. I did this because I have no input volume controls. But it didn't work-recordings sound like I put the "naked" mic right in front of the kit! Is this just the nature of iPod recording?Lousy for music but great for speech?

Not familiar with the mics you mention.
I've only used the built-in mic itself, along with the camera, in video mode.
Here's a couple of my early ones, that I hope to be able to laugh at, in a year or so

Basically I'm just playing a CD player, through a widescreen TV's sound system, with the iPhone propped up
on top of the TV, in a little cardboard stand I made for it, about 4 feet behind and a couple feet above my head.

It's not pro quality, for sure... but it seems to be enough to highlight any bad quality you're looking for. LOL!

I dunno. Play around with placement, try above, below, behind, to one side, etc... to get what you want.
(Also, try with the mic's facing 'away' instead of toward?)
    Just experiment, I guess.

Hmmm... I re-read your post, and just now realized you said iPOD and not iPHONE.
Same advice applies, I guess. Play around with it. Just spotted my 'oops' and wanted to say, "oops" I guess
