i think you got to go used (budget)
it better to have a good used then a new not so good
Hi guys ! Great site . Glad to be a part . Now to it . I have been playing for around 1 year . I bought I cheap kit and over time have upgraded it . Remo skins , new cymbals . I started by buying some sabian solar .. Which sounded horrible . I have now started buying paiste pst5 . Which I like . Now to the questions . What is the good sounding cymbal to have as I keep getting new ones and not really liking the sound . Obviously there is a budget ! Sooo a good sound and not a massive price also in regards to the kit . Does a decent kit make a massive difference . Should I upgrade ? Advice please

Welcome to Drum Chat mdoswell!
I agree with Riouel that going with used is a good budget stretcher. About 90% of my cymbals used pro level cymbals. If you have the opportunity to get to a music store with a good cymbal section, take your sticks and go try a bunch of cymbals to see what your own ears like. Once you figure out what you like, start keeping your eyes open for used cymbals of that type. Music store have used cymbals, pawn shops sometimes have them, online sources like eBay and craigslist have them. There are plenty of good used pro level cymbals out there, so just make sure they are in good condition (no keyholing or cracks).

I have a cb kit ( embaressing to say ) it has remo pinstripes . Sabain sonix ride . Sabian solar crash and a pst5 splash. Do u think by fitting remo skins and using the remo rings I have maximised the quality of sound I will get . I'm looking at buying a tama rockstar kit and replacing the sabians with paiste pst5 ... Am I going in the right direction ?
Yes that rockstar kit will take you in the right direction.
You need to decide which is your priority being on a budget.......new kit or cymbals.
I agrree with Riouel, buying a good used set is much better than a new set of a lower quality.
Depending on your budget you might even find yourself a used intermediate set with good cymbals in your price range.

I would say I have reached intermediate level . Just lacking knowledge . Do u think the paiste pst5 are worth buying I love the splash . But it doesn't seem right to judge the whole set on the splash . Mapex pro m series worth a go ?

Your CB set is an entry-level type kit and the TAMA would be an upgrade. The Pro M woulld also be very nice.
The splash is an acsent type cymbal that should compliment either set so I wouldnt worry about that.
Listen to the cymbals and let your ears decide which ones you like. Try listening to your buddies cymbals or take a trip to your local music store to hear some.

About ten years ago, a friend of mine got some CBs and invited some others over to jam out in the garage and have some fun. I got to play the CBs and after a while it was beat to death. The hardware was horrible, and the heads lasted 2-3 weeks. I would think with a decent HH stand, kick pedal, and good heads, and intermediate cymbals, like XS20s, they'll be OK for now. I'd go with the Tama Rockstar for sure.
I agree with the others..buy good used Pro cymbals (Zildjian, Sabian, Paste, etc..). I would rather have a few Pro cymbals, than a bunch of lower quality ones. So, for a new player, I would suggest a 14" set of hi-hats, 20" ride, and a 16" or 18" crash....that's all you need....and perhaps a 10" or 12" splash if you have a few dollars left over. Good luck !
9, heads are replaceable so I don't see how that's an argument.
I'm with nio...you can make a low-end set sound good with the right heads and tuning, but Sabian Solars will never sound like HHX's no matter what you do. I say upgrade to at least used mid-level cymbals (Sabian Xs20, Paiste Alpha). You can find lots of great deals on these cymbals on eBay. Save the kit upgrade for later.

check out some used pdp's also they are a high quality budget priced kit even better to get a good used kit and cheaper I would say the pst 5's wold be a good choice also
Of course I'm showing some favoritism here, but there's nothing wrong with some of the entry, to mid-level Sonor kits as well. And as far as cymbals, Paiste Alphas offer great sound for a modest price.
