My Yamaha Stage Customs are a natural matte finish and I'm curious what the best way to care for them is. Should they be oiled periodically? Also,I have never used a detergent on them, only warm water and a towel now and again if it gets real sawdusty. There are some spots though, especially on the bass drum hoops from handling the kit that need a good cleaning. Could it hurt to use a light detergent?

I don't think oiling them would be a good idea- I think some of those lemon oils contain kerosene, which sounds bad to me. Your drums look like they are practically bare wood, so I feel that if you oiled them once, they would become oil junkies, needing more oil to keep the finish even all around. I use a product called Murphy's Oil Soap to clean my bare wood/matte finish stuff. Its pretty mild, since its made with vegetables, and isn't oily.
(I don't use it on my drums since they have that thick lacquer finish)
