Question Breaking the link between hands and feet ???

Alright, so I want to be able to keep a constant bass pattern when I`m doing fills and complicated things on the hi-hat. (By constant, I don't mean like hitting the bass drum at 1 and 3 or easy stuff like that.)

I have total control over the bass drum when I`m doing straight 8th or 16th notes on the hi-hat but it's when I do complicated things, I have trouble.

So basically what I'm trying to say is that I want to be able to do whatever I want with my hands while keeping a constant bass pattern.
    How can I achieve this??
    Any good exercises on youtube?

    Here's an example.
    Complicated hi-hat stuff 2:27~2:31
    The fills 1:50~2:05

Thomas Lang's Advanced Foot Technique and Creative Control may be what the doctor ordered.

No. It is to develop independence and interdependence. He plays with a lot of pedals, but the examples are used to help you develop your skills.

If you want to see another drummer whos good with his feet check out Rick Allen, the one-armed stickman from Def Leppard. Man! that guy can play!!

you need some left food independence

off the kit constantly practise 8ths with just the left foot until the muscle memory is good enough

I just try to concentrate on my counting and everything seems to follow for me. I just started learning paradiddles on the hi hat and transitioning from the hi hat/snare to my 10" tom/snare while keeping the bass pedal on the same beat. It took me all of about one day to figure it out but knowing where you are in the count helps me on about everything I'm learning on drums. Counting is everything. From what I've heard metronomes are also a big help. I have been struggling on seperating my right foot and left hand and when they start mocking one another I just listen to the beat and start counting to myself and it straightens out. I have most of my trouble when I'm lacking concentation by not counting, or I'm tired which screws with my concentation. It's taken me several months to seperate my foot from my hand with alot of frustrating practice sessions, but I just kept plugging away at it, and I'm just almost there. I still have my momments but they are becomming fewer.
