Default Metal paint on pitted rims?

    Hi all,

I picked up a snare on ebay and the rims are showing signs of pitting. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a method and product that I can use to paint over the pitted areas and get it looking good, and also protect it from future pitting.

    thanks!

Really nothing that you can do paint wise that will hold up worth a dang. It will just chip off if you hit it with a stick. New rims are reasonably cheap from the drum supply companies, just buy a couple of new rims and be done with it.

Well it all depends on just how bad the pitting is! you may be able to clean if off, now some will say not to use exta fine steel wool..but I did just that with the help of a CLR solution to loosen..and there have been No after-effects..

I think tremclad would be the best paint for your rims. Just a suggestion cause it seems to work on all meals.

    Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions. The chrome in some areas is actually chipped away (not just pitted) revealing the surface below, whatever that is.

I guess replacing the hoops are one option. do you think it is worth getting some paint or polish or is it really a waste of time?

After reading your post I think the best would be new hoop cause sounds like they are done. If you are going for a new hoop can I suggest Die Cast hoops cause. They are the best and strongest hoop money can buy and they will keep the drums tuned longer. Good luck.

man i have went back and worth on this and i have not found a paint that will hold up for long your best bet is to

    1. get new rims you can get them powder coated in almost any color you want or to get them in a colored chrome

    2. if you have a mini da get a buffing pad and some 2000 grit sand paper and some mothers mag wheel polish and polish the hell out of them it will work but if it is mega pitted this will not work if they are true chrome cause the brass and nickel will shine thru

    3. i have not tryed this but some ppl on here say that using coke and aluminum foil will work

    best of luck
