I will soon need a new snare head and I have decided that is to be one of the following.

    Remo Emperor X
    Remo Controlled Sound

I will mainly be playing rock, metal and prog.

I voted the emperor x. I've tried the CS and wasn't impressed. I'd even look at the Ambassador X if I were you.

I could sugges Evan's Genera HD, Evan's EC frosted with reverse dot. I have experience with both and they are good and serve their purposes.

I use an Aquarian Hi-Velocity. So does Chris Adler. If that means anything to you. I have no opinions on the heads you're thinking about because I've used neither.

I have looked at the hi energy that Chris Adler uses but decided to go for one of the above as all my tom heads are remo too. The snare is a 12 x 6 and if I use the high energy it might be to hi pitched for me. I have also looked at the Hi-Velocity but they dont to that in a 12" head.

Adler has a 12" Hi-Velocity on his custom snare, but I haven't seen it sold by itself anywhere.

i voted the emperor x. it is a very durable snare head. i also find that even when tuned up high it has a lot of focus and body to it.

CS, the EmpX is a terrible head. Its good for one sound one style, a dead whop sound.

I have had the cs used on just about every drum i've ever owned, snares/toms/kicks and they haven't dissappointed me. Emperor X essentially is the same thing but with a two ply head, so the sound you'll be getting will be really dead. I recommend CS over Emp X, because I have no experience with Emp X.

Thanks, man! This is actually my first foray into the blues, I've been a hard rock/metal guy for most of my drumming "career"....but this isn't about me or my band.... What did you think of the snare? There's no muffling on my snare drum at all, and there are no studio effects on it. That's my snare drum, with a Remo Emperor X head on it. I just wanted to give you an example of what that head sounds like.

The list of god-like drummers that have used the CS on their snare drum over the years could fill this entire post.

I am not a god-like drummer, but I got the hint.

In other news, I've never used the Emp X, so it could be a great head for your needs. But the CS has been used for like 40 years on countless recordings, so it's got that going for it.
