I'm considering mounting my timbales on a Gibraltar rack by inserting the top part of the timbale stand into a clamp. But they're so heavy I'm not sure it would work. Anyone here mount their timbales on a rack?

I have before without problem, however the timbales I had at the time were some cheapy alluminum shells which didn't weigh much at all. A set of brass timbs can be very heavy though, and having both drums on 1 clamp might be tough to do. Maybe fabricate some single mounts for each drum? What does the mounting system look like?

Unlike you I have a pair of Dixon mini timbales ("8 and 10") that I pop into my small percussion set-up...sometimes on a spare, lightweight Alesis (ex-electronic kit) rack. But yeah, I would go for single mounts for each of your drums in your case.

I mount them on my rack:

Sometimes i like a single stand more but I wont give me the flexability of mounting several instruments around the timbales.

Thanks, Musiqman. But for some reason I cannot view your images. I'd love to see them.
