    Default Another Heads Thread (Evans)

Hey guys, I just wish to pick your brains before I try something out.

I currently have EC2s over EC Resos on 12" and 14" toms on my Tama Rockstar kit. I have had the EC2s on now for 7/8 months and I'm going to change them out before my next session in the studio next week.

I managed to get a steal on ebay and got two Evans Hydraulic heads for the toms few a few pounds, so firstly does anyone know what sound I should expect from Hydraulic batter over EC Reso?

Secondly I also have a Resonant Glass head for my 14" which has been sat around doing nothing for a while and whilst I don't need to change my EC Resos I wondered if anyone knew what to expect from Hydraulic over reso glass as I wonder if the Hydraulic over EC Reso is going to be too much thud on my 14"?

Thanks in advance for any help.
    Mike.

I currently have Hydraulics over Reso glass on my Swingstar kit. Personally I like the set up. It's low and heavy with very minimal sustain.

Cheers Marko, thats kinda what I expected, I have found that my rockstars don't sound as good as they once did when tuned low, and thats kinda why I went for the EC2 over EC Reso to be able to tune a little higher but cut the sustain and still have a thud.

Jerzey, I have Evans blue hydra/Evans G1. I have the heads tuned low. They are on my Pearl SBX (100% birch kit) and I used no damping or muffs on the batter heads. Video recorded straight from PA head to Edirol two track via RCA stereo out from PA head.

Overhead mic only: AKG T170 small condenser
Heads: Evans Blue Hyraulics over Evans G1 clear
Record source: Peavey PA head XR8600
Recorder: Edirol two track Mp3 digital field recorder
    Post audio effects: None
Post compression: DAW (Cakewalk) plug-in "Radio Loudness" only

Cool late, lovin that tom sound dude, I doubt my Rockstars will ever sound that good, but I think I will be trying the hydraulics over EC Resos.

The hydraulics give a real 70's super muffled sound, without external dampening. They have their fans. I used them without resonants on my first kit. They have a sweet sound without resonants.
